Sam Angelo Lazzara, 94 of Tampa, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on February 4th at 4:24am with his loving family at his side. He was born in Ybor City and was a life time resident of Tampa. After many years he received his High School Diploma. An accomplishment that he was very proud of. Sam was President and Owner of Spartan Oil Company from its inception in 1960 until his retirement in 2006 at the age of 79.
The things that he loved the most and enjoyed was spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and work. He was passionate about solitaire. He played by hand and later on learned on his I-pad.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Angelo and Rosalia Lazzara, Son, Michael Lazzara, Grandsons, Michael Bryan and Sam Demi Lazzara, Brothers, Joseph and Frank Lazzara. Sisters, Angie Achary, Mary Landreneau, Frances Traina, Angela Zummo, Lily Krueger and Josephine Anello.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Pilkay Lazzara of 44 years, Sons Wilfred “Tony” Lazzara (Kelly), Angelo Lazzara (Lisa) and Daughter Lea Canalejo (Ronnie) and stepson Sonny George (Donna). Grandchildren, Laruen Canalejo, Nicholas Lazzara (Krista), Riley and Reese Lazzara and Tina Canalejo. Great grandchildren, Brysten Lazzara, Sam “Baby Sam” Lazzara, Jayla and Julian Smith and Alex Lazzara. Sister Janie Smith of New Orleans and Sister-in-law Lerida Lazzara. Also, many Godchildren, extended family and friends.
Sam served in the Navy and was a World War II veteran. Sam was a member of the Masonic Lodge Hillsborough # 25 and Shriners of Tampa.
The family would like to thank Marvalyn Field, Beverly Kerr and Emiraque Louissaint for the excellent care that was given to him.
Visitation will be held at Blount and Curry located at 3207 W Bearss Avenue on Wednesday February 16th from 5-7 pm with a Wake service from 6-7 pm.
Flowers will be accepted but in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the following charities in Mr. Lazzara’s name. Murray Family Foundation, Shriners Hospital for Children, Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches Inc., ALSAC/St. Jude Children Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
