Ryan Michael McCoy of Tampa, Florida was liberated from his physical form in the late evening hours of December 24th, 2021. Born in Woodbridge, Virginia on July 6th, 1989, Ryan was 32 years old at the time of his passing.
As a young lad, Ryan was always curious of the unknown. Continually searching for answers. Such as how high you can climb a dresser with a TV on top of it before the whole thing avalanches on your face. Or, where the perfect hiding spot might be for hide and seek when your big brother is always peeking through his fingers as he counts faster than the recommended “1 Mississippi”.
In this thirstful quest for elucidation, Ryan mastered many talents through his early years of development. The first of many was the artful craft of video gaming. From the beginning with (It’sa Me) Mario, dodging the fast and furious barrels of Donkey Kong, to Goldeneye, Halo, League of Legends and Dungeons and Dragons. For all those gamers out there, his legendary Tag was ‘Crunchy Clamydia’. Which yes, is exactly how you picture it would be.
Sounds nerdy, right? Damn skippy.
Through this nerdtastic hunt for creative wisdom, Ryan made time for endless hours of ping pong, Lincoln Logs and epic lightsaber battles. Not to mention he starred in one of the most influential films of the 20th century, “The Rescue”. Which can be found on VHS at your local Blockbuster.
Sounding monotonous? Well, buckle up buttercup because here comes puberty. In his Middle School years, Ryan dabbled in the molecular physics of gutter-ball as well as playing an integral part in the research and development of the world's first Super Soaker Flamethrower (Patent Pending).
One might ask, how do you feed such an advanced mind with the essential nutrients needed for pushing the limits of intellectuality? That’s a piece of cake…usually for breakfast…leftover from a birthday party 3 weeks prior. Paired with none less than a Tuna Melt, Vienna sausages, a few pickles and a balmy room temperature Yoo-hoo to wash it down.
Yes, all in one sitting.
When it came to fashion, Ryan’s sense was impeccable. From Dolce and Gabbana tuxedos to his signature attire which consisted of yellow basketball shorts, a random t-shirt (that was usually one size too small) and knee high tube socks accompanied by a pair of shoes not appropriate for the season.
As his adolescence concluded, Ryan rocked his way into the local scenes of Football and Lacrosse making headlines as a star athlete in the region. Naturally, with all his rigorous training growing up. Most of the time he showed up to games on time as his sense of direction would have been loosely defined as, “Unfortunate”. Especially for such a smart boy.
As Ryan entered adulthood, he maneuvered his way through the collegiate years with an open heart and the ability to legally purchase alcohol. The ability which inevitably led to his signature toast.
“There’s good ships, there’s wood ships, there’s ships that sail the sea. But the best ships are friendships and may they always be.”
This toast and these words were the life Ryan lived. This comical recollection of his soul is a mere reflection of his good nature. Ryan loved: Loved people. Loved animals. Loved his parents. Loved his brothers. Loved a good scotch with a cigar. Loved with his whole heart. And he was loved by many.
Ryan is Survived by his parents Stephen and Susan McCoy of Leesburg, Florida. His brother Shawn McCoy (and Husband, Justin Berken). His brother Scott Herman (and significant other, Tess Gregory). Grandparents Larry and Veronica Lockwood. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Partner Becky Grossman. The Best of friends, Addison Moulds (and Fiancé Ashleigh Berry). Preceded in death by his Grandparents’ Patty and Skeeter McCoy. His beloved canine companion Ginny.
