Tampa native, Rose Marie Tamborello Varas, died on June 20, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Varas, Jr. Rose Marie is survived by her children Anthony Varas, Selina Varas Llewellyn (Robert), Dwayne Varas (Elizabeth), and Sam May-Varas (Carrie) as well as her siblings Sam Tamborello (Juanita) and Emma Lena Manicchia (Lanny). She was also a grandmother to eleven grandchildren.
Rose Marie was born at Centro Asturiano Hospital in Tampa and was raised in Ybor City. She was proud to call “old” Jefferson High School her Alma mater. There she enjoyed dancing as a majorette and cheering on her future husband at football games.
When all her children became school-age, Rose Marie began a 30+ year career as a Teacher’s Aid with the Hillsborough County School District. She also maintained a Real Estate license well into retirement. In addition to her professional career, she served in the leadership of the Hillsborough County Democratic Party, was active with both parish and diocesan Council of Catholic Women and is the immediate past president of the Columbiettes at Incarnation Catholic Church in Tampa. Rose Marie enjoyed visiting with her immediate and extended family, socializing with her friends, and especially dancing.
A Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 7, at Incarnation Catholic Church. This will be followed by Mass at 11:00 am, Fr. Michael Cormier presiding.
