Dr. Robert John Maddalon, affectionately known as Bob, cherished husband of Laura (Taylor) for 31 years and admired father of Marissa, Matthew, and Michael Maddalon, passed away on February 6th, 2025, in Tampa, Florida.
Born on February 4th, 1951, in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, Bob was an orthopedic surgeon and founding partner of Brandon Orthopedic Associates, a successful practice serving Tampa, Brandon, and Sun City. He had an immeasurable positive impact on his patients, partners, and staff through his diligent care and compassionate service. His treatment relieved the chronic pain, improved the quality of life, and restored the ability to walk for countless individuals. Oftentimes, he was pleasantly surprised by a friendly smile and amicable conversation from past patients at local restaurants and sporting events. Bob consistently pursued exceptional patient outcomes for 36 years in Tampa Bay from 1985 until his retirement on July 4th, 2021 (Independence Day!).
He graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, now Drexel University, in Philadelphia with a Doctor of Medicine, Duquesne University in Pittsburgh with a Master of Science, and the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science. Bob graduated from Saint Francis de Sales High School in McKees Rocks as the salutatorian, four-year varsity basketball starter, and basketball section champion. He continued his basketball career at the University of Pittsburgh Johnston where he played on both the varsity and freshman teams concurrently.
Bob was a kind, generous, and practical man who valued honesty and hard work. He was a loving husband and father who cared deeply for his family and dedicated his life to protecting and providing for them. He persistently encouraged his children to strive for greater heights and always emphasized, “Dream Big Dreams!” His spirited personality was marked by his dependability, sincerity, and dry sense of humor characterized by a mastery of Dad jokes.
He loved to travel with his wife and children, and he attended many extended family reunions. He frequently visited old and new friends and enjoyed several high school reunions.
An avid sports fan, he consistently supported his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Pitt Panthers while developing a fondness for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Buccaneers, and Rays.
He is survived by his wife, Laura, his children, Marissa, Matthew, and Michael, and his siblings, Dal (late Esther) of Yorktown, Virginia, Nina of Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania, Mark (late Joyce) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Janine (Jack) Mogan of Naperville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dal and Agnes Maddalon, of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 28th, from 5 to 8 PM with a 6:30 PM Vigil Service at Blount & Curry Life Event Center at 605 S. MacDill Ave. in Tampa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 1st, at 11 AM at Christ the King Church at 821 S. Dale Mabry Hwy. in Tampa. Following Mass, Bob will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with family.
