Robert L. Gess

Robert L. Gess, age 96, of Tampa, Florida passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022. Robert was born July 1, 1925 in Kane, Pennsylvania to Louis and Philomena Gess. He grew up in Brockway, Pa. with his sister Alma and three brothers; William, Gerald, and Raymond, which are all deceased.

He graduated from Brockway High School. He served in the United states Army during WWII and the Korean War. He made the rank of Sergeant and saw action at the Battle of the Bulge. He returned home and moved to Erie, Pa. where he ran the Brown Derby, met and married Catherine T. Obmann. They were married for 42 years. They moved to Tampa with their two boys. He worked for Kirsch for over 25 years. He loved his cigars and good conversations at the holiday dinner table.

He is survived by his two sons Robert (Linda) and Joseph (Kathy), his 5 grandchildren; Lisa Marie Gonzalez (Ruben), Matthew Gess (Rachel), John Gess (Brittany), Kristina Byrd, and Marie Gess (Nick). He also had 6 beautiful great-grandchildren; JP, Katie, Jack, Lucas, Audrey, and Tucker.

The family wants to thank the staff at Rosecastle at Delaney Creek for taking good care of our father.

A visitation for Robert will be held Friday, May 13, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service 12:00 PM, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. A committal service will occur Friday, May 13, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4228 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert's memory may be made to Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay, 1307 N. MacDill Avenue , Tampa, Florida 33607
