Born in Hinsdale, Illinois on January 18, 1927, to the late Elizabeth Traylor Doan.
At the age of two, his family of his Mom, sister and brother moved to Albany, Georgia.
Robert was a graduate of Albany High School - Thronateeska in Albany, Georgia in 1944 where he excelled in Victory Club, Art, Band, Basketball and Track.
Following High School, Robert joined the U.S. Navy during WWII where he served on the USS Maryland and YMS-444 as an electrician for the mining sweeping activities near Japan. As a Shellback, he earned the American Area, Asiatic-Pacific, and Victory Medals.
Following an honorable discharge, Robert attended Emory University in Atlanta, Ga where he graduated with a Degree in Business Administration – Accounting. He earned the recognition Emory University Captain Kidd Award for Leadership, Scholarship and Activities in 1955.
Following graduation from Emory, Robert and his family moved to Newnan, Ga, then to Boca Raton, Fla and finally to Tallahassee, Fla. Where he lived for 53 years.
Robert was a humble, caring man raised by a single Mom with his sister during the great depression. He had a passion for working hard and making sure his family was well cared for and prepared for the future.
His career as an accountant included being the first accountant for the Florida Atlantic University (FAU), an accountant to the Florida Department of Transportation for 26 years, and semi-retirement career as an Enrolled Agent Tax Preparer until he decided to fully retire at the age of 92.
He served St. John’s Church in Tallahassee, Fla as treasurer from 1967-1986. Robert was active with the Leon High School Touchdown Club. Robert enjoyed being a season ticket holder for the FSU Seminoles for the football and baseball teams. Robert was a life-time member of the Elks Lodge in Tallahassee.
Robert enjoyed being an accountant and helping others with tax returns. Often his work for others was pro-bono depending to the individuals needs. He enjoyed the challenge of getting the best tax returns possible but made certain he never compromised moral and ethical standards.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Bonna Anne Larson (David), two sons Robert Hudson Doan Jr. (Traci) and Ben Wadsworth Doan (Jenny) and six grandchildren, Taylor Wadsworth Doan, Daniel Puryear Doan, Robert Ryan Doan, Paul Michael Doan, Renee Marie Larson and Katherine Emily Larson.
He is preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Traylor Doan, sister June Patricia Doan Farris and brother Richard Donald Doan. A veterans memorial ceremony being planned.
