He lost his mother at an early age and was raised by his loving Aunt Hallie Simms who preceded him in death. Richard is preceded in death also by his brothers Willie Lackery, Leroy Moore, and James Burston, sisters Bridie Pearl Hendry and Julie Bell Ross.
Richard was a member of New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Tampa where he faithfully served. He sang in the Choir #1, where he was vice president for many years. He also worked faithfully with the finance committee until the decline of his health.
Richard retired from Wonder Bread in 2005, after being employed for 42 years.
He was considered a "Jack of All Trades". Wherever his services were needed, he was available-with a smile. He was a mild manner and quiet man. He was a loving husband and father and very protective of his family.
He leaves to cherish loving and fond memories; his loving, devoted wife Juanita Burston, a very loving, devoted son, Ricardo "Rick" Burston, a loving and devoted niece Patricia Parks, sons; Richard D. Burston, Freeman Burston (Timika), Don Pittman (Letarsha), Christopher Burtson (Stefanie), two daughters; Cynthia Y. Burston, Cynthia Young, his brother Roger L. Burston (Martha), sisters; Hallie M. Strickland(Johnny), and Lucille Smith, a host of grand and great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
