69, of Tampa and Blairsville (GA), passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital (Tampa) surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 3rd , 2018, from complications of pulmonary fibrosis/pneumonia. Pete was born and raised in Tampa, graduating from Jesuit High School in 1966, and attending St. Leo College before graduating from Florida State University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He retired as Courts Administrator of the Circuit Court after 35 years and served on the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee for Suncoast Credit Union for 30 years. He also served on committees for Members Trust Company, the Hillsborough County Employees Credit Union, and as a liaison to the Florida Bar Association. Pete enjoyed being outdoors and was a sailor and boater. He sailed the Caribbean with his sister-in-law, Melene Bruce, and her husband Bill, and raced out of Davis Island Yacht Club with his friends Ron Yates and Bill Fletcher. In recent years, he particularly enjoyed boating on Lake Nottely in the north Georgia mountains, where he spent his summers. He and his family spent many wonderful weeks each summer camping in National Parks across the country. He also traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states, most of the Canadian provinces, and most of Europe, the latest being a return trip to his ancestral Ireland and Scotland and a cruise around the Baltic Sea. He always enjoyed tackling do-it-yourself projects. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Joseph C. and Deirdre Driver Flynn (Tampa) and brother, William Michael (Mike) Flynn (Tampa). He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jeanine Steinkamp Flynn; daughter Shannon Flynn Koplitz and her husband John (Clearwater); son Ryan Flynn and his wife Melissa Plunkett Flynn (Tampa); 4 grandchildren (Maggie Koplitz, Caroline Flynn, Ian Koplitz, and Anna Flynn); sister, Patricia Flynn Wermuth (Longboat Key); sister-in-laws, Sally Zendegui Flynn (Tampa) and Melene Steinkamp Bruce (Sandbridge, VA); nieces Christine Wermuth Wadsworth (Raleigh, NC), Michaele Flynn Prince (Armuchee, GA), Katie Flynn King (St. Augustine, FL), and Tracy Cannon (Ft. Myers, FL); nephews Michael Wermuth (Miami), Gregory Wermuth (Norfolk, VA), Fritz Wermuth (Winter Park), Tim Cannon (Anaheim Hills, CA), Terry Cannon (Decatur, GA), and Todd Cannon (Virginia Beach, VA), and many great nieces, nephews, and close friends. A Memorial Mass will be conducted by family friend Father George Corrigan at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, January 19th at 10 am. Inurnment will immediately follow in the family plot at Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Pete to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Dysautonomia International, the Coastal Conservation Association of Florida, or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
