HUSSEY, Mildred J., 93, of Palm Harbor (formerly Valrico) passed away on May 7, 2018. She was born in Newport, RI on July 16, 1924 to Timothy and Johanna (Egan) Harrington. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Walter F. Hussey, daughter Joan Brennan and granddaughter Michelle Martin. Survivors include her children, Peter (Nancy) Hussey of NC, Nancy (R.L.) Qualls of AR, Mark (Lisa) Hussey of Auburndale, and Jane (Kevin) McDonald of Palm Harbor; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
After graduating from St. Catherine Academy in Newport, RI, Millie joined the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) and proudly served her country during World War II and continued her involvement with the Military Women of Tampa Bay, Unit 55. Millie possessed an undying work ethic and held a variety of positions in the education, management, and real estate fields. She loved to travel and made several trips to County Kerry, Ireland, to see her cousins. Millie was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed quilting and knitting presents for her family and friends.
As a devout Catholic, Millie spent many years volunteering her time and talent, most recently at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (Seffner) serving those less fortunate. Millie fiercely loved her family and friends and the feeling was mutual; she will be so dearly missed by all those who loved her.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 9 at 10:00 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 2801 Curlew Rd, Clearwater. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Society of St. Vincent De Paul 23399 U.S. Hwy 19 N., Clearwater, FL 33765 in Mildred’s memory.
