Mike was born on September 26, 1934, to parents Dudley and Mary Newton in Detroit, Michigan and became loyal brother to John Dudley Newton, previously deceased. Mike graduated from the University of Michigan in 1959 with two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). In 1962, Mike became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Mike started his career as a traveling consultant for Ernst & Ernst in Detroit, Michigan but later changed his focus to finance and business management to have more time at home with his family.
Mike married Ingeborg Bauer in 1964. They had three children and moved several times before settling in Hudson, Ohio for nearly 20 years. He was a devoted father and husband, and he was known for his honesty and integrity. He was a role model for his children who recognize how his example has positively impacted their lives. Mike enjoyed his work in business management and finance, ending his long career as Treasurer of Roadway Express in Akron, Ohio. After retiring in 1994, Mike and Ing relocated to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee to enjoy many happy years of golf and new friendships, and eventually moved to Tampa, Florida in 2022. Mike was an avid golfer, enjoyed travel and history, and followed the stock market and business strategies with passion. His family will always treasure the memories of annual vacations sponsored by their father and grandfather.
Mike will be missed and fondly remembered by his wife of nearly 60 years, Ing, three children, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is father to Heide and her husband Tom Edling, Michael and his wife Juliet, and Bryce and his wife Laura, grandfather to Jacob, Conner, Blake, Ella, Margaret, John, Andrew, Christian and Caelyn, and great-grandfather to Sammy and Emerson. The family plans a private memorial gathering in his honor.
