We are sad to announce that Michael P. Miller passed away on November 12, 2019. Michael is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Suzanne Miller. He is also survived by his son, Anthony (Tony) and daughter in law, Estela, and their daughters Gabriela and Ava. Michael is also survived by his daughter, Michele and her son, Mitchell.
Michael was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on September 15, 1943. Soon as the war ended, he and his parents moved back to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was raised there by his father, Phillips Abner Miller, and mother, Mary Miller. He lost his father at the age of 12, but his mother continued to live in Lancaster and saw the birth of both of her grandchildren.
Michael joined the United States Marines in 1960, at the age of 17, right out of high school. He was first assigned as a Rifle Instructor at Paris Island, South Carolina. Marines are the only branch of the military trusted to guard US Embassies around the world. Michael became a Marine Corps Security Guard and served from 1961 to 1965 at the US Embassy in Paris, France, where he and Suzanne met.
Michael and Suzanne were married in 1965, and moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He attended Millersville University in Lancaster. He graduated, then taught school in Dundalk, Maryland. In 1970, Michael joined the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as a Special Agent in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He later transferred to the United States Customs Service Office of Investigation where he retired in 1995. After Michael retired, he accepted a position as a coordinator at the Multi-Jurisdictional Counter-Drug Task Force at St. Petersburg College. He retired from that position in 2018 to be with his wife and family. Michael and Suzanne have made many friends in the Tampa area because of Michael's job with MCTFT, and all around the country.
