He was predeceased by his loving parents, Francis J. and Mary V. Flannery, and siblings Jean E. Flannery and William F. Flannery.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Terri, his children Brendan (Liz), Kara, and Kevin, his grandchildren Aiden and Ethan, his sister Mary Carole Lynch (Don), his brother Robert Flannery, and several nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Tampa, he attended Tampa Catholic High School and the University of South Florida.
Dr. Flannery was a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Internal Medicine and the University of South Florida College of Medicine. He was the Program Director, GMEC Internal Review Director, Head of Student Counseling, and a member of the Admissions Committee in a career spanning over 31 years. He published 60 peer reviewed articles in medical literature and received over 35 academic teaching and community service awards during his tenure. He also originated 7 scholarships to help students at USF, Tampa General Hospital, Bishop McLaughlin High School, and Catholic Charities. He and his wife Terri developed and organized St. Andre Free Clinic in Dade City in 2009, a clinic for the underfunded and uninsured. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and a huge hockey fan.
