Melvin (Mel) Andrew Myer, Jr., 84, of Tampa, Florida stepped into heaven on September 10, 2024. Born on May 29, 1940 in Tampa, Florida, he was a devoted husband to Sheri Abrams Myer, a loving father to daughters, Melanie Jean Myer, Marie Michelle Myers, and son-in-law, Harry (Jack) LeRoy Myers III, a proud grandfather to Harry (John) LeRoy Myers IV, Joshua Melvin Myers, and Kaitlyn Rose Myers, and a doting great-grandfather to Levi Joshua Myers and Nova Quinn Myers.
Mel graduated from H.B. Plant High School in Tampa, Florida in 1959. He attended St. Pete Jr. College and the University of Florida. He served in the United States Army Reserves while gaining experience working in various industries. He enjoyed helping people and impacting their lives, so he decided to follow a career path into the financial services industry where he stayed for 55 years. His career began in the securities business in 1969 where he marketed investment securities with A.G. Edwards. Over the years as he gained experience and wisdom, Mel specialized in financial consulting and strategic concepts that facilitated tax-advantaged wealth creation and preservation for individuals and business owners alike to maximize their estates. He enjoyed assisting his clients and was particularly sensitive to estate planning issues, family business dynamics, and the need for discretion and trust.
Another area of Mel’s expertise was that of assisting business owners with capital financing. He consulted with owners of numerous companies who sought to capitalize their companies, so they could focus on long term growth and maximize their full potential. Providing strategically structured solutions and capital transactions for industries, businesses, and companies, he placed aggregate transactions in the billions of dollars.
Throughout his career, Mel served on the board of directors of various civic, social, corporate, religious and political organizations in the Tampa Bay area. Mel’s memberships included the following organizations: The Estate Planning Council, The Million Dollar Round Table™, Top of the Table™ and National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (including state and local chapters). He earned his Associate’s Degree in Theology from Life Christian University in Plant City, Florida and was working on his Bachelor’s Degree in Theology.
He enjoyed speaking to Christian Businessmen’s Groups as well as teaching financial principles in the local church. He served as Chairman of the Board of Jack Myers Ministries for 28 years. He was the “Man in the Arena” and the original “Man of Valor” all the way across the finish line. His innumerable achievements and accomplishments are as many as the lives that he impacted and imparted his wisdom to, while he was on this earth.
Mel enjoyed developing relationships with people, networking, and encouraging people to achieve their dreams. He had a smile that would light up any room. Everyone that met him instantly felt the warmth and joy that came from the inside of his heart of gold. He laughed at adversity and lived every day of his life to the fullest. He was loved by everyone who knew him, and if you had the opportunity to have a conversation with him, you went away feeling like your life was changed for the better.
He was a member of Life Family Church in Plant City, FL since its inception in 2010, and served faithfully leading the Men of Valor, mentoring the ushers, and teaching Biblical financial principles by delivering offering messages from time to time. He was a Biblical example of an exhorter, how to love unconditionally, and led many people to the Lord.
Mel also proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, traveling, and reading.
He is survived by his wife , Sheri Abrams Myer, children Melanie Jean Myer and Marie Michelle Myers, Harry (Jack) LeRoy Myers III, grandchildren, Harry (John) LeRoy Myers IV, Joshua Melvin Myers (Kaitlyn Rose Myers) and great grandchildren, Levi Joshua Myers and Nova Quinn Myers as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
