Mary Sue was best known for her inner and outer beauty, her fashion sense, her wit, her love for family, and her devotion to Jesus Christ. She was a founding member of the Manhattan Avenue United Methodist Church and took pride in her large family. Mary spent over 70 years in Tampa, where she considered home.
Mary Sue lived a fulfilling life as a stay-at-home mother and grandmother, a role she cherished deeply. She found joy in playing the piano, but mostly by spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her six children Dennis Walters (Beverly), Mitchell "Mitch" Walters (Cathy), Susan "Susie" Munroe, Jeffrey "Jeff" Walters, Sr. (Karen), Melissa "Missy" Sima (Michael), Leanetta "Lea" Harlow (Brian), as well as sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mary Sue was predeceased by her husband, Mitchell Walters, who passed away at the young age of 54, her parents, Lloyd Hugh Smith, Mary Susan Graves Smith, and her siblings Junior Smith, Mahdeen Cagle Franks, and Virginia Smith Monday.
A funeral service will be held at Palma Ceia Methodist Church in Tampa on Wednesday, June 19, at 10:30 am, followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. A private graveside service at Garden of Memories will be held at a later date.
