Mary Rivero McNulty Estes of Tampa passed away on July 23, 2024. Maria was born on January 4, 1926 to Amado and Sofia Rivero, immigrants from the Province of Asturias Spain. She and her brother Bernardo grew up on the family dairy farm which was in the area of Tampa Stadium and she became the family interpreter. Mary graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1943. She went on to Florida State College for Women and graduated in 1947–the first year the college went co-ed as FSU. She returned to Tampa and taught elementary school at Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary. She then moved to Gainesville entering the University of Florida in a Masters Program. There she met Fred Hugh McNulty. They married in 1950 and resided in Haines City. His untimely death in 1962 propelled her into the world of finance and she served on the Board of Directors of a succession of bank corporations in Florida for over 20 years. She was active in St Mark's Episcopal Church in Haines City. In 1974 she wed Alfred Swann Estes. They enjoyed spending time in the mountains and traveled extensively. She was an avid gardener and in her later years nothing pleased her more than the sight of a beautiful tree. She is survived by her two children Cristina McNulty and Scott (Cait) McNulty. She would be pleased if in her memory you would plant a tree.
