Marlene Suzanne Boggs (formerly Onderko), passed away April 1st, 2025 at the age of 84. She was a long-time resident of Cape Coral, FL. She was a beloved family member and loyal friend bringing joy to all who were lucky enough to have known her.
Marlene was born on January 6th, 1941 to William Francis Onderko and Susan Eileen Onderko (formerly Sklenar) in Braddock, PA. She grew up with one older brother Ronald Onderko and their family dog Blitz. She was baptized at St. Michael’s Church in Braddock, PA on January 24th, 1941. As a child she enjoyed playing with friends at the park, riding her bike, roller and ice skating, and her favorite place was Kennywood, a local amusement park.
She graduated from St. Thomas High School and followed in her Mother’s footsteps of pursuing a career in nursing graduating from Braddock General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959.
After graduating, she enlisted with the US army as a nurse in 1960. She completed basic training in TX. She became a Reserve Commissioned Officer with the rank of Second Lieutenant in the US Army in June 1962. She thoroughly enjoyed her time in the Army making friends amongst her fellow nurses, traveling, and serving her country.
While serving in Germany, she met her future husband Frank Boggs on September 3rd, 1963 while he was a patient in her ward. Through charm and persistence, he won her over and they went on their first date five days later and became engaged February 14th, 1964. They were married in her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA on September 26th, 1964 at St. Agnes Catholic Church. The two love birds spent their honeymoon in Europe and shared many adventures throughout their lifetime.
They welcomed their son Brett Boggs on August 13, 1970. Her Mother Sue joined the family to help care for Brett while Marlene and Frank continued to work. They later added a precocious husky named Bandit to their family. She continued to work as a nurse in both hospital and commercial settings. The family lived in Tampa, FL, Baltimore, MD, Alta Loma, CA, and San Ramon, CA. After retiring, Frank and Marlene moved to Cape Coral, FL.
Frank and Marlene always shared a passion for traveling and went on trips throughout the world exploring places such as Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, Germany, France, Italy, and many other adventures. She had a wide array of interests and hobbies including bowling, playing card games, bingo with her Mom, skiing, gambling, and being a wonderful Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. She collected many beautiful things such as dolls, coins, and Mardi Gras masks. She remained a devoted Catholic throughout her lifetime and her relationship with God was always of high importance.
Marlene was beloved by her family and friends for her positive spirit, big heart, feistiness, caring for others, and sense of humor. She is survived by husband Frank Boggs, son Brett Boggs, grandchildren Sabrina and Avery Boggs, and their extended family.
A visitation for Marlene will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 E LAKE AVE, TAMPA, FL 33610. A service will occur Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 4207 E LAKE AVE, TAMPA, FL 33610. A burial will occur Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Garden of Memories Cemetery, E Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610.
