Mark William Stanton, age 71, passed away peacefully on November 10th, following a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph (1996) and Catherine (2012). He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Monika, siblings Peter (and his wife, Christine,) and Joe, nephew Brian, along with a large extended family and numerous friends. He leaves behind in deep sadness his wife's family in Poland, Monika's son Kris, his wife Renata, grandaughters Martyna and Nikola, family of Piotr Muszynski and many more. He learned to love them during our many trips to Poland.
Following an extended academic career, including graduate studies at the University of North Carolina and Princeton University, Mark chose a career in healthcare policy, as an analyst and technical writer, both in the private and public sectors. A highlight of his 35 year career in healthcare was his appearance and testimony before a congressional subcommittee on health policy in 1992.
In his leisure time, Mark enjoyed retirement in his Florida home with his wife, Monika and their dog Roxi. An extremely widely read man, He was never one to shy away from intellectual discourse on a wide variety of topics, including music, history and philosophy. The depth of his knowledge in these areas amazed all he came in contact with. He also played the piano quite well and took great pleasure in listening to opera and the classics.
Mark was a very kind and gentle man, always looking to help his friends and family. His even tempered and thoughtful approach to life was an inspiration to others. He loved his wife, family and friends and the love was returned. He will be greatly missed.
