Marilyn attended H.B. Plant High School, and she continued her education at the University of South Florida where she graduated as a member of its charter class in 1963 with a double major in fine arts and elementary education. Throughout the years, she taught, and substitute taught at various schools in Tampa including Grady Elementary and Tampa Prep. Marilyn also worked in retail sales for Maas Brothers, Dillard’s, Stein Mart, and April Cornell. She even ventured to sell outdoor advertising and real estate, and she served as a caregiver for several family members.
Marilyn’s Christian faith was an essential part of her life, and she encouraged her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to pursue a personal relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Her sister, Barbara; and her daughter, Claudia, predecease her. She is survived by her sons, Charles and William; her daughters, Rebecca and Denise; her five grandchildren; and her four great-grandchildren, some of whom referred to her as “Dahlia.”
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Arbor Day Foundation or American Forests.
