Marcel (Buddy) Gutierrez, age 75, of Tampa, Florida peacefully passed away on April 7, 2023, after a valiant fight with cancer. Marcel was born in Tampa, and is preceded in death by his mother, Frances Allington Gutierrez, and father, Marcelino Gutierrez. He is survived by his wife, Beth Gutierrez. Marcel graduated high school from Plant High and attended the University of Tampa for several years. He began his working career in Information Technology starting in 1970 with Mary Carter, then J&J Critikon followed by GTE (now Verizon) Data Services. In 1999, he embarked on his second career as fishing guide Captain Buddy specializing in in-shore light tackle and fly-fishing. Marcel was a man of many interests including photography, travel, computing, fishing, genealogy and racing. In the 70’s Marcel also raced cars and won the regional championship in his class in his first season in competition in the Central Florida region of the Sports Car Club of America’s ‘A’ sports-racing category. He was known for his great cooking ability especially his seafood paella and smoked barbequed ribs. As part of his genealogy research, he reconnected with cousins in Spain who he visited as often as he was able. This connection to Spain led to walking the Camino de Santiago 2 times, an experience that he would say later was the best time in his life. Marcel will be remembered as a quick wit and a good storyteller who lived life to the fullest possible.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation from 4:00PM to 6:00PM on Tuesday May 16, 2023 at Blount and Curry Funeral Home 605 South MacDill Avenue Tampa, Florida. A celebration of life will immediately follow at 6:00PM in the funeral home.
