Larry was born on May 8, 1951, to C.M. Boatman and Marie Allen Boatman in Statesboro, Ga. After graduating from Statesboro High School in 1969, he earned his undergraduate degree in business from Georgia State University and his master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Florida State University.
In 1970, he met Pam Murphy, and they wed in 1971. After graduation, they moved to Miami, FL, where he began his professional career in transportation planning and management at Dade County for the Metrorail Project. He began his own transportation consulting firm, Spillman Boatman and Associates, which was subsequently acquired by the former engineering firm, PBS&J. He finished his career as an executive vice president with PBS&J, managing numerous transportation-related divisions. He was a highly-respected leader and innovator at PBS&J and then its successor, Atkins Global, for more than 20 years.
After retirement, Larry and Pam moved to Jupiter, FL, where they built their dream home. He and Pam were married for 50 years setting an example of true love, commitment, and partnership for all who knew them. He was unendingly proud of his only child, daughter Leslie.
Larry and Pam enjoyed time together boating, traveling, and following thoroughbred horseracing, especially the thoroughbred horses they owned in partnership with Centennial Farms.
He is survived by his wife Pam Murphy Boatman, his daughter, Leslie Allison Boatman, sisters Joyce Joiner, Carol Osweiler, Sherry Goodwin (Tom), Sheila Roach (Bob), Shea Walsh (Tom), Shelda Baumann (Steve), Sherice Blanchette, brother- and sister-in-law Paul and Janet Murphy, and a huge extended family of aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and close friends.
He is remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and generous spirit.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be planned in the spring or as soon as is appropriate for family and friends to gather.
