Kathryn Elizabeth Wilson Williamson 2/26/1927 – 10/3/2017 A remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and belle of the ball, Kathy will be missed by everyone lucky enough to have known her. Kathy was born in Tampa in 1927, was a first-generation Floridian brought up in the Seminole Heights neighborhood of Tampa by her father, J.B. Wilson, from Pineview, GA and her mother, Flossie Fowler, from Soperton, GA. Kathy is a graduate of Hillsborough High School and attended the University of Tampa, where she met and fell in love with her husband of 68 years, Dr. Harold Williamson, also a Tampa native, resident of Seminole Heights and graduate of Hillsborough High School. She abandoned her college career to support Harold, a World War II Air Force veteran, as she worked while he pursued his medical degree to become an orthopedic surgeon. Kathy and Harold eventually settled in the Tampa neighborhood of Beach Park where they brought up their five children. She dedicated her life to raising them, always in a loving, nurturing and supportive way. Kathy is remembered by her family as being a great cook, a consummate homemaker and an awesome home room mother. She was blessed with a remarkable green thumb, was a dedicated bridge player and, despite saying otherwise, a passionate dog lover. She was devoted to both her family and close friends, who appreciated her sense of style and how much she enjoyed being the center of attention, particularly following her Friday afternoon beauty parlor appointments. As her health was failing, her children and grandchildren comforted her the most but it was Rex (a miniature schnauzer) who provided her with constant companionship and comfort. Her many volunteer activities included: The Hillsborough County Medical Association Women’s Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School, and the Robert McCord Oral School for the Deaf (now the Bolesta Center). Kathy is survived by her husband, Dr. Harold L. Williamson (married 68 years), five children: Kay (husband Paul) Saari of Lakeland, Alan (wife Barbara) Williamson of Clermont, Judy (husband Richard) Maugeri of Clearwater, Bryan of Santa Fe New Mexico, & Glenn (husband Kurt Birusingh) of Los Angeles, seven grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. A visitation starts at 3 pm, followed by a service at 4 pm and a reception following the service all at The Garden of Memories, 4207 E Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610 (gardenofmemoriestampa.com) this Sunday, October 8, 2017.
