Karen was born to parents Gerard Sulfrian and Herta Roehler on February 2, 1939, in Newark, NJ. She grew up the youngest of two children and was a 1957 graduate of Highland Park (NJ) High School. Karen attended Rutgers University Extension School as well as the Barbaizon School of Modeling.

After surviving two epic Chicago winters in 1967 and 1969, the family lived in Hamilton Township, NJ, and Macungie, PA. There, in addition to devoted wife, Karen played many roles, including: Sunday school teacher, Preschool director, doting dance and soccer mom, Queen of the Jell-O mold, bridge club hostess, Boy Scout booster (in spite of the many lonely camping weekends that came with it), and patient spectator of many a bad-weather high school football game to watch her daughter’s halftime marching band performances.
Widowed in 1996, in February 2000, Karen married William Powers. They were happily married for 14 years, residing in Charlotte, NC, and Tampa, FL.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Linda Richards; her son, Daniel Miers; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands David and William, her parents Gerard and Herta, and her brother Joachim Sulfrian.
A celebration of her life and memory will take place at a future date to be announced when friends and family can gather safely.
