Judith Ann Weed Smith, age 80, passed away Wednesday morning September 4, 2019 at Brookdale Northdale Senior Living Community in Tampa, FL. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1938. She was raised in Dallas, Texas and went to high school at Ursuline Academy. She graduated in the class of 1956 and was homecoming queen her senior year. She attended University of Texas and majored in interior design. She married Paul Tibbets Smith in 1957 and was a homemaker for many years.
Her creative side came through when she opened The Niche. It was a retail boutique that sold antiques and her own crafts along with those from other various artisans. Her first shop was in Naperville, IL and she later opened another shop in Tucker, GA. Later she opened Judy’s Factory Outlet, a chain of ladies clothing stores, along with her husband Paul. They operated stores in Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Lakeland. She went on to run the retail store for the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL. After that she got her real estate license and launched a very productive career selling new custom built homes for Laurelwood and Southern Crafted.
Judy was a very generous, sweet and loving person. She had so much empathy for the people around her. It’s what made her successful in selling custom homes and the cornerstone for deep and lasting relationships with her friends and family.
She was most of all a devoted mother and always put her family and children first. Judy joins her parents Leonard Joseph Weed and Cyril Audrey Durrett along with her brothers Ron and Gene Weed in heaven. She is survived by her four sons and their families, Paul Brent Smith his wife Julie and daughters Jordan, Jayme and Jessica, Brian Joseph Smith and his children Kristin, Austin and Meghan, Bruce Holmes Smith his wife Gina and daughter Katelyn, Brad Christopher Tibbets Smith his wife Lori and their daughter Sara and son Liam.
