Joseph (Joe) J. McGuire Jr. of Tampa, FL passed away on October 28, 2023. Joe was born in Queens, N.Y. on January 8, 1959, to the late Joseph and Dorothy McGuire. He is survived by his two loving children, Morgan (Paul) Schulz and Michael (Ashley) McGuire. Joe grew up in Somers, N.Y. and graduated from Somers High School. He then went to Lake City, FL where he received his Associates of Science Degree in Golf Course Management. Joe worked as a Golf Course Superintendent at some of the finest courses in Florida. In 2002, he established Athletic Turf Care Solutions and recently turned the company over to his son Michael so he could begin his retirement.
Joe lived an incredible life. He never knew a stranger and had a remarkable number of friends, from childhood to today. His home in Myrtle Beach was an oasis for whoever loved to come visit and relax. That's what he loved most in life, his family, and friends.
Joe traveled the world! Between countless countries, cruises, and ski trips around the U.S., you never knew where he would be when you called. Two weeks ago, he was in Costa Rica having a drink at a bar with old friends. Every year he went on a snowmobile trip to upstate N.Y. with his best friends from high school. Joe was an avid golfer; some would say a damn good one. His love for coaching baseball/softball was undeniable, the number of tournaments he played and players he coached was inconceivable.
Joe also leaves behind his grandson, Paul Joseph Schulz and granddaughter, Ellie Marie Schulz. He was excited to meet his future granddaughter Carsyn Jo McGuire who will be born in March 2024. He will be greatly missed by his siblings, Rosemary (Ryan) Wilson, Thomas (Lauri) McGuire, Dorothy (Doug) McGuire and Teresa (Daniel) Luongo and his companion Ling.
Joe also has many (great) nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.
Joe’s love for life knew no bounds, his children were his world. His legacy will continue through shared smiles, infectious laughter, and our treasured memories.
A funeral service will take place at 3pm on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023 at Blount and Curry Carrollwood located at 3207 W. Bearss Ave. Tampa, FL. 33618. The family will receive friends one hour prior starting at 2pm for visitation.
