It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph (Joe) Jones, age 73, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world in early December. Joe was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Almos and MaryAlice Jones, where he was welcomed by his sister Hazel. The family soon moved to North Fort Myers, Florida, where Joe's friendly spirit and humor began to shine brightly. After five years, he was blessed with a baby brother, Allen, establishing a bond that would last a lifetime.
Joe graduated from North Fort Myers Junior Senior High School in 1969 and answered the call of service, enlisting in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country was a source of pride for him and his family and led to lifelong friendships. Upon returning home, he met his soulmate, Candyce, and together they created a loving partnership that flourished for over 49 years.
As parents to Jason and Ashley, Joe and Candyce dedicated themselves to supporting their children in every endeavor, cheering them on through practices, games, and concerts. Joe’s love for music was a cherished part of their family life, as he and Candyce attended numerous performances by their talented children.
In his professional life, Joe excelled as a Radiographer and later as a Sonographer, where he was revered not only for his skill but also for his compassionate leadership. Colleagues often described him as an amazing boss—supportive, funny, and always ready with a kind word. After thirty fulfilling years in healthcare, he took early retirement, allowing him to devote precious time to care for his ailing mother during her final years, exemplifying the love and devotion he extended to his family.
In his later years, Joe found immense joy in the laughter and love of his four grandchildren. A recent example was a memorable day spent at Busch Gardens with his oldest grandchild, where they joyfully rode seven roller coasters together—a testament to his adventurous spirit and deep love for family.
Joseph Jones is preceded in death by his parents, Almos and MaryAlice Jones, his sister Hazel Jones Walker, and his brother Allen Jones. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife, Candyce; his children, Jason (& Whitney) Jones and Ashley (& Rex) Roberts; and his cherished grandchildren, Paige, Alexia, Kyler, and Davis.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Friday, December 13th, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home—Carrollwood on Bearss in Tampa, Florida. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., followed by a service at 3 p.m. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Vietnam Veterans Association (http://www.vva.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (http://www.stjude.org), reflecting Joe’s spirit of giving and love for others.
Joseph Jones will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear Joe. Your song lives on.
A gathering of family and friends for Joseph will be held Friday, December 13, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Blount & Curry FH-Carrollwood, 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618, followed by a celebration of life service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
