Jose Laboy

Jose Laboy was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico in the year 1925. Raised in Puerto Rico, he graduated from high school and enlisted in the Army. While in the Army, thru love letters, he was to meet his wife to be, Maria Velez Rivera. They were married in 1953 and moved to New York City. The were married 67 years and her devotion to him until the very end is what true love is about.

Jose is survived by his wife and son Oscar Laboy, his grandchildren, Leana Laboy, Derek Laboy and wife Natalie, Britni Laboy, his daughter in law Iris Laboy and his sister Libertad Rosario and many nephews, nieces and friends. His nephews Eddie and Albert Laboy were closest to his heart. This relationship was fostered upon two brothers marrying two sisters. Jose's brother married Jose's wife's sister. Both families also had two sons. Special hugs go out to Myrna Velez, his niece, who always watched out for him when he lived in Puerto Rico. He returned there in the 1980's and lived there until 2015, when they moved to Tampa. Special hugs go out to Monserrate Velez and his wife Rosi and Edgar Velez who also watched out for Jose and Maria in Puerto Rico.

Jose lived in New York City after the Army, where he worked for the General Motors Corporation in Manhattan as a maintenance helper. His passions beside his grandchildren, were baseball and horse racing. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers Fan.

Waiting for Jose in Heaven are his son, Joseph Laboy, his mother, Simona Gonzalez Laboy, his father, Eduardo Laboy, his brother Domingo Laboy and wife Ana Laboy and his sister Rosita Laboy.
