John S. Pisarski, 97, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22. John was born in Bircza, Poland and emigrated to the United States as a young boy settling in Detroit, Mich. John graduated from Northeastern H. S. where he excelled in football and baseball and was drafted to the Cincinnati Reds Major League Baseball organization. World War II would cut short John’s baseball career and he served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 66th Tank Destroyers. John did four tours and saw action in the European Theater, participating in the D Day invasion and other many other operations. After the war ended, John met the love of his life Dinah, and eventually they settled in Tampa, Fla. in 1951. John became a Staff and District Manager with United Insurance Company of America. He prided himself in mentoring young agents and making them successful in the business. John was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and served as an usher and volunteered for many parish events. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, attaining the 4th degree and served as a Grand Knight and he was a member of American Legion Post #5. John was preceded in death by his wife, Dinah; parents, Michael and Mary, sister Pauline and brother Stanley. John is survived by his son Michael (Mary Beth), daughter Stephanie, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation. There will be memorial service for both John and his wife, Dinah at Christ the King Catholic on Thursday, January 28th at 10am followed by inurnment at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
