John Ellis Metzger

John was born in Blair County Pennsylvania to Ira Campbell Metzger & Grace Mae Water Metzger on January 19, 1929.

After High School in Roaring Spring Pennsylvania, he joined the army, where he was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington DC. That is where he launched his long career in computer programing, and security. It is also where he met and married his loving wife of 67 years, Charlotte May Otto. He married Charlotte on November 22, 1950.

After John finished his career in the Army, he went to work for NSA in Washington, DC. When John left the NSA in 1971, he went to work for AT&T in computer security. In 1978 he was transferred to Bedminster NJ.

John and his wife both had a great love for travel and golf. They were very fortunate enough to travel to many countries and around the United States, that they shared with their children.

After retirement, John and his wife would spend winters in Florida. They would play golf everyday, in the spring, summer and fall. John worked at the golf course where he would teach women and youth.

John won several Somerset County Senior Golf tournaments, and achieved two holes in one. On their 55th wedding anniversary, John played St. Andrews in Scotland, his biggest dream, while his wife and children watched.

John had great love for his lord and savior, his family and friends, and he will be missed by all.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Ira & Grace Metzger; his wife of 67 years, Charlotte Metzger; his sister, Marcheta Stayer; and his son-in-law, Kurt J. Rhoda.

John is survived by his daughter, Sharon Metzger Rhoda of Annapolis, MD; his son Douglas Campbell Metzger-Miles (Jeff Metzger-Miles) of Largo, FL; his grandson, Matthew Rhoda of Orson, PA; his granddaughter, Hannah Rhoda-Huber (Hayden Huber) of Winter Garden, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Washington DC along with his wife Charlotte at a later Date.
