John August Huff Jr.

John (Rusty) August Huff Jr., age 99, of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, passed away on December 28, 2022. He was born on September 29, 1923 in Riverton, Virginia, the son of Lily Mae Garrett and John August Huff, Sr.

Rusty served honorably for four years in the United States Navy, including serving in World War II in the Pacific theater, flying from the USS Yorktown. He served for 16 years in the Navy Reserve. He was an owner of Huff Masonry, a family business and was an active member of a thriving Lutz, Florida community. Rusty was a long time member of the Tim’s Memorial Presbyterian Church (Tim’s) and the Lutz Volunteer Fire Department, and was a Cub Scout/Boy Scout Master for Troop 212 at Tim’s in Lutz. He enjoyed a lengthy retirement in Lutz and Land O’ Lakes, Florida.

Rusty was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Y. Huff in 1998, sister June Brown, and brother Charles. Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Thomas (Joseph); son, John August Huff III; grandchildren, Cathryn Wood, John August Huff IV, Nicholas Huff, Brian Huff, and Daniel Huff; great grandchildren, Caroline Wood, Caelyn Wood, Charles Wood IV, and Caleb Wood, Noel Huff, Atlas Huff, Logan Huff and Gavin Huff.

A memorial service will be held at Creekside Church, 311 Newberger Road, Lutz, FL 33549 on January 28, 2023 at 10:30 am, after which light refreshments will be available. Please, bring something if you wish.

A private family interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to any veterans support organization.
