Jerry was born on 6 May 1949 to Howard and Anna Pickering in Atlanta, GA. He attended Avondale High School and went on to join the United States Marines in July 1967. He did two tours of duty in Vietnam where he served his county valiantly, earning the following decorations:
Purple Heart Medal
Combat Action Ribbon
Good Conduct Medal
National Defense Service Medal
Vietnamese Service Medals: 1 Silver, 2 Bronze
Vietnamese Campaign Medal
Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm
He was a good Marine. He was a proud Marine. Semper Fi.
In 1988, Jerry married Kathleen (Kat) Cullinan. They were soulmates and were able to laugh at or with each other in any situation Jerry put them in. They stuck together no matter how hard things became, supporting each other through life’s ups and downs. They have been reunited in Heaven and are back together eternally.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Kat Pickering, his Mother, Anna Ruth Littrell Pickering and Father, Howard Lee Pickering. He is survived by his Son, Micah Lee Pickering, his Daughter, Melanie Pickering, his Sister, Carol Pickering Morris and his Brother, Tom Pickering.
We will have a Celebration of Life and honor Jerry on Thursday, 18 May 2023 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm EST at Mr. Dunderbak's Biergarten, 14929 Bruce B Downs Blvd, Tampa, FL 33613.
Jerry and Kat will be laid to rest together in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA later this summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate) or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (https://www.aspca.org/) in honor of Jerry as both of these organizations were important to him.
