Jerry Wayne Perkins, 71 of Homosassa, Florida passed away on April 18, 2023. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Jerry was born July 6, 1951 in Oneida, Tennessee to Effie Slaven and Andrew Perkins. Jerry was an Air Force military brat, who joined the US Army in 1969 where you obtained his High School diploma. Jerry served as a supply sergeant on assignments in Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Vietnam. After his military service in 1971, Jerry attended a Technical school where he became a Electrician. Jerry worked for Tri-City Electric on large scale projects, like the Museum Of Science and Industry (MOSI) IMAX Dome, located in Tampa, Florida in 1995. Jerry was known for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, and giant heart to give, even when he had nothing but his time and skills to offer.
Jerry had a passion for muscle cars and off-road mud trucks. He would spend hours after work and weekends working under the hood of cars or lifting trucks in his driveway, forcing his kids to serve as his side-kick mechanics, even after he began experiencing hand trimmers. This hobby was shared by all of his brothers, and every weekend cookout meant hoods were raised and let the "smack talk" begin! Jerry lived by the 82nd Airborne Creed, “I will never surrender while I still have the means to fight...”, this he did despite his odds, and all the way until his final days on this earth.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Effie and father Andrew, and two infant siblings. He is survived by wife of 47 years, Norma Perkins (Dunn), their two children Jerry Wayne Perkins Jr. and Melissa Sue Perkins-Fercha (Nadia), his five brothers Benjamin Perkins (Margo), Bill Perkins (Tia), Steve Perkins (Julie), Richard Perkins, Charles Perkins (Debbie), and sister Debra Lange, three grandchildren MontDiego Xavier, Amaricee Vidonia, and Lochlyn Cosette, and countless nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private celebration of life in Tampa, Florida, and later will take Jerry home to rest in the mountains of Tennessee.
Should friends or family wish to contribute to supporting the family, the family had requested donations to a GoFundMe for Little Jerry. The funds raised will be used to pay off the truck Jerry was gifting to his son before he passed.
