Jerry Clayton Hiers

Jerry Clayton Hiers, 89, was born in Tampa, Florida on June 12, 1934 and passed away on September 24, 2023 in Tampa. His parents were Theodore Frederick Hiers and Alberta Herndon Hiers, both Florida natives. He is predeceased by a brother Duane Hiers and a sister Patricia Carreño. He was a graduate of Hillsborough High School in 1952.

He served 23 years in the U.S. Army in Korea, Vietnam and Germany, among other locations, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant and receiving the Bronze Star Medal. He graduated from the University of South Florida and taught Social Studies in the Pinellas County School System for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore Worth Hiers; two sons, Mark J. Hiers (Crystal), Matthew K. Hiers (Cindi); four grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason, Joie and Ryan Hiers; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service for Jerry will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4228 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
