Fogarty, Jerry Eugene, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on February 16, 2016. He was 89 years old, born in Bradenton, Florida on October 13, 1926. Dearly loved by his children, grandchildren and many friends, he was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Nancy Hahn Fogarty. He is survived by his children J. Eugene Fogarty, Jr. (Lisa), Gail Ramsbottom (Garnett), Gwyn Schabacker (Mark) and Sandra Tuttle (Doug). He will also be missed by his eight grandchildren Jerry E. Fogarty III (Shawn), Ashley Lass (Jim), Nancy Mudd (F.D.), J. Garnett Ramsbottom (Kathy), Mark Schabacker, Jr. (Jamie), Caroline Schabacker, Burton Tuttle (Shelby), and Jenna Rome (Trey) as well as his great grandchildren James Lass, II, DeSales Mudd, Finley Tuttle, McRae Schabacker, Mabel Tuttle and Grant Schabacker. A lifelong Gator fan, he graduated from the University of Florida where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy and later built Fogarty Van Lines as its owner and president. Jerry was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for many years served as both Junior and Senior Warden. As a member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, he served many years as a board member, second lieutenant, Captain and King. He was also a member of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club and served as its Commodore in 1969. He is the Past Chairman of the Movers and Warehouseman’s Association of America and the Florida Trucking Association. Jerry is a past President of the University Club of Tampa, past Chairman of McDonald Training Center, and past board member of Ellis National Bank. He was a member of the Egypt Temple Shrine and the Royal Order of Jesters. For many years he was a member of the Rotary Club of Tampa, The Tampa Port Authority, the Berkeley Preparatory School Board of Trustees, and the Merrymakers Club. Our special thanks to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Canterbury Towers, Tampa General Hospital and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church or Lifepath Hospice. A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home on MacDill Avenue. A celebration of his life will take place at 12:00 pm. on Saturday, February 20th at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
