Janie was born in Gainesville, FL to Orin Lee Holloway and Sarah Blasingame Holloway. While in high school, Janie’s family moved to Alachua, FL, where Janie graduated. She graduated from Spartanburg Junior College in Spartanburg, SC, and was later employed as a secretary at Silver Springs in Ocala, FL. In Ocala she met William (Bill) Raymond Faust, and the two were wed on August 17, 1954, in Alachua. Presiding over the wedding ceremony was William’s father, Reverend Walter R. Faust.
The couple moved to Philadelphia where Bill attended Temple Medical School, and then moved frequently as Bill served his internship and commitment to the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon. Their first stop was Jacksonville, FL, where daughter Susan was born, followed by Homestead, FL, where daughter Linda was born, and then Bermuda. The family finally settled in 1959 in Tampa, where Bill opened his long-standing medical office in Forest Hills. Their third child, a son, David, was born in Tampa.
Over the course of her life Janie devoted herself to many endeavors, whether the sphere was that of faith, civic duty, neighborhood life, or leisure activities. She was an accomplished artist, painting nearly two hundred oil landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, many of which grace homes across the country. She was active in various Christian Ministries, including Child Evangelism Fellowship, Christian Women’s Club, and Campus Crusade for Christ. She impacted many children for Christ through Good News clubs she led in the garage at the family home on Lake Carroll. Janie served devotedly in every church she attended, especially Christ Community Church, in which she and Bill were long time members. Subsequently, she and Bill became members of Idlewild Baptist Church, where Janie served on the evangelism team doing what she did best, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. In her final years she attended Tampa Covenant Church with her family, where she received the love and appreciation of yet another church family.
Second only to her love for her Savior, Janie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her gift of hospitality was always at the ready, touching the lives of her family and many others through her gracious love and generosity. Her care for others extended into the medical field as well. In her middle years she earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and joined Bill as well in his practice as nurse and office manager. Bill and Janie were married for 51 years before Bill succumbed to brain cancer, bringing to a close a life of close companionship and service to God.
She is predeceased by her three siblings, Billy Holloway, Rev. Wescoat Holloway, and Judy Dahlstrom. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Susan (Dr. Donald) Liebelt of Ocala, FL; Linda (Dr. William) Reynolds of Tampa, FL; and David (Gina) Faust of Land o’ Lakes, FL.
She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Bonnie (Rich) Van Voorst, John (Margot) Reynolds, Michael (Danielle) Reynolds, Andrew Reynolds, Stephen (Sarah) Liebelt, Matthew (Sara) Liebelt, Robert Liebelt, Kaitlyn Liebelt, Michael Faust, and Christian Faust. She is further survived by ten great-grandchildren.
Janie’s final years were spent in the loving care of Ramon and Myriam Chang at their Adult Family Care Home in Tampa, an establishment that Janie helped bring to fruition after she met the couple as they attended Janie’s elderly mother years before. The Chang’s treated Janie like royalty, and join the family in mourning her passing while rejoicing in her transition to the presence of God.
Janie will be laid to rest at Lake Carroll Cemetery alongside her beloved husband. A Celebration of Life will be held at Idlewild Baptist Church, January 13 at 11:00am. Visitation will begin at 10:00am. Janie wanted this to be a joyful celebration, so attendees may consider wearing "happy" colors or a beautiful blue (her favorite color). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Janie’s honor to Child Evangelism Fellowship, Idlewild Baptist Church, or Tampa Covenant Church.
