Metcalf, James E. "Jim", 80, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2015. Jim was born in Columbus, OH, on October 19, 1934. He moved to Tampa with his parents, E.M. "Dick" Metcalf and Reba Latta Metcalf, at six years of age. He attended Tampa schools and the University of Tampa, where he was a member of the rowing crew and the tennis team. He began his career as a cub reporter at the Tampa Daily Times, later to become the Tampa Tribune Daily Times, where he continued as a full time reporter. He later went into the advertising and public relations business, founding Metcalf & Associates, which he presided over until his retirement.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and playing racquetball and tennis. He and his wife loved traveling together. He was a permanent 5 day a week substitute driver delivering Meals on Wheels for several routes in the north Tampa area. He was also a dedicated member and elder of his church.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marlene Skornschek Metcalf, and two sons, Mike (Kathy) of Tampa, and Greg (Karen) of Maryville, TN, as well as grandchildren Douglas (Erin), Tyler, Timothy, Sarah, Joshua, Hannah, Daniel, and great-granddaughter Ava.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 1:00pm followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 709 W. Linebaugh Ave., Tampa, FL 33612 in memory of Jim Metcalf.
