James J. Mangan,“Red-Eye”, 89, of Tampa passed away on Nov. 28, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 yrs., Elda Hensel Mangan and his son Joseph Mangan. Preceded in death by his son Michael Mangan; parents Myrtle Ogden Mangan and George Mangan; siblings, George Mangan, Eileen Caughlin, and Eleanor Daniel. He was born in Hammond, Indiana and his parents moved to Tampa when he was 2 yrs. old. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1941. He joined the infantry with the Third Division and made the invasion of Anzio, Italy on Jan. 22, 1944 and wounded on Feb. 28, 1944. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star for bravery, and other medals. In his early business career he was associated with two national concerns and served as an officer in each. In addition Jim has been active in Community affairs, served as Past President on Interbay Sertoma and received a special award for bringing in more than 50 members. He was chairman of the committee to build the first new building for MacDonald Training Foundation and also served as Vice President of research for the foundation and Past Leading Knight of Tampa Elks Loge 708, Past President of Allied Industries of Florida Canners Assoc., and Chairman of Board of Pilot Commissioners, being appointed by two former Governors of the State of Florida. He was also in the Life Insurance business for many years. Jim enjoyed helping others and loved his many friends. Memorial service will be held on Thurs., Dec. 06 at 11am, family will receive friends from 9am to 11am at Gonzalez Funeral Home.
