Hoppe, James Clarence, age 81, of Tampa, Fl, passed away September 20, 2014. Jim was born in Tampa to Clarence and Clara Mae Hoppe. He spent his entire life growing up in Tampa and graduated from H.B. Plant High School in 1951. Jim attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee where he excelled and lettered in track and wrestling, and developed his love of Southern History. He received a degree from the School of Banking at Louisiana State University and continued a lifetime career in the banking industry. Jim was a past President of Tampa North Rotary, proud member of Kappa Alpha Order (Alpha Alpha Chapter), member of Tampa Yacht and Country Club, a past Director of The Merry Makers Club, former First Lieutenant Ye Mystic Crew of Gasparilla, and life-long member, Treasurer, and Officer in the Vestry at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church. Jim was a true "Family Man" a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid fan of his beloved Florida Gators, a dove & quail hunter, and enjoyed traveling the South visiting Civil War battlefields. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 57 years, Joan Henderson Hoppe and their three children, Lynda, Jim Jr(Karyn) and Melissa(Pat). Da's adoring grandsons, Patrick, Matthew and Thomas McCarthy, Jim III(Trey), Jackson and Wesley Hoppe. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 509 E. Twiggs Street, Tampa, Fl 33602. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and new friends he has made at John Knox Village over the last 15 months.
