Iola Mae Jackson

Iola was born on November 2, 1945 in Detroit Michigan, to the late Solomon and Martha Ann Cowan.

Iola attended Northern High school in Detroit Michigan. She later met and married James Jackson on September 5, 1962. Together they had five children, Angela Pettway, Danetta Strong (Kevin Strong), Margaret Jackson, Zina Jackson (Geneva Grant), and Demetrius Jackson.

Experiencing her first major health fight with Spinal Meningitis at the age of 7, Iola had to battle her way back from full paralysis. Through hard work and God’s grace she was able to regain 80% of her mobility. This childhood disease would affect the remainder of her life and contributed to the progression of her PBC condition.

Affectionately known as Mae to family and friends, Iola lived a fulfilling life as a sister, mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. As a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit Michigan, Mae volunteered countless hours to the Missionary Society whose primary charter was to improve the quality of life for the community.

In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her beloved Sister, Lavern Simon, and devoted daughters Margaret and Angela. She also joins her friend Gladys Oakley whose death was exactly one-year prior on Dec 2, 2020.

Mae is survived by her Husband, James, daughters, Danetta and Zina, son, Demetrius, brother in-law George Quill and sister in-law, Eleanor Quill, 13 Grandchildren; Christian, Demetra, Dominique, Danielle, Brittanni, Kevin, Ronald, Demetrius, Raya, Tanner, Raven, Lana, and Sahavannah, 12 Great-Grandchildren; Andre, Dalian, Danyla, Christian Jr, Breyanna, Kevin, Elijah, Daniel, Jordynn, Langston, Laila, and Quinton Jr, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins that loved her.

A visitation for Iola will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Blount & Curry FH-Carrollwood, 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618. A funeral home will occur Friday, December 17, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618. A cemetery service will occur Friday, December 17, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 S. W. 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.
