Ida Fernandez Korff Johnson was born and raised in Tampa. She attended local schools and graduated from Plant High School. She received her BA degree from the University of Alabama and did graduate work in Elementary Education at the University of Florida. While in college, she served as an officer of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and continued being active in the Tampa alumni chapter. She was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon International Business Sorority. After graduating from college, she was elected Queen of the Latin American Fiesta in Tampa and traveled as a Goodwill Ambassador to New Orleans, Houston, Mexico City, and Havana. In her adult life, she was involved in a few different organizations. First, she was a long time member of the St Petersburg Yacht Club and was active in the Woman’s Club and Book Club there. She also was an officer and served on the Executive Board of the GFWC Tampa Woman’s Club for many years. Lastly, she was a member of the Palma Ceia United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of her UMW Circle 2 friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving son, Harry O. Korff III (Trey), her husband of nearly 40 years, Royce D Johnson, her parents Marina and Joaquin Fernandez, her brother Jack Fernandez (and his wife Lily), her nephew Jack Fernandez III, her sisters Evelyn Fernandez and Elvira F Flowers, and her brother-in-law W.H. Flowers.
She is survived by her daughter Marina Spears, her grandson Matthew Trey Korff, his wife, Amanda and their daughter, Remington, who was born the day after her great- grandmother passed. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 17th from 6-7pm with a service beginning at 7pm at Blount and Curry Macdill, 605 S. Macdill Ave, Tampa 33609. Interment will be held privately.
Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made in her memory to Palma Ceia United Methodist Church in Tampa or GFWC Tampa Woman’s Club.
