With great sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the passing of Hilda Krauss Martin, age 95, of Tampa. While surrounded by her loving family, Hilda went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2023. She will forever live in our hearts.
Born Brunhilde Elfriede Krauss in Dotzheim, Germany on April 29, 1928, to Theodor and Katharine Müller, both preceded her in death as well as her brother, Theodor Krauss. Hilda is survived by her four children, her pride and greatest joy: Susan (Richard), Nancy (Steve), Kathy (Kevin) and Michael (Pam); Grandchildren Angela (Allen), Austin (Erin), Amanda, Donovan and MaKenna; and Great Grandchildren Mason, Vivienne, Ella, Jack and Oliver; as well as her “other” loved children. She dedicated her life to nurturing and raising her children, always putting their needs and wants before her own, and somehow, always made ends meet.
Hilda attended school at Rioderberg in Wiesbaden, Germany. She was very conscientious, a good student and learned several languages including German, French and English. She attended one year of college before starting a job at the American Red Cross at the US Air Force Headquarters in Bad Wildungen, Germany. In 1956, Hilda moved to the United States, first living in Alexandria, Virginia before moving to Tampa, Florida in 1968. In 1970, Hilda began her long 23 year career at Royal (Globe) Insurance in administration. She was a very valued employee, receiving several promotions and accolades during her employment; also, making several life long friends there. When not working, Hilda liked to go to the gym (spa to her), dance, work in her yard, play tennis occasionally, read her Bible, and bake her famous peanut butter and Hershey kiss cookies at Christmas. Hilda loved her dark chocolate and banana bread!
Hilda loved her Lord and her church, Hillsdale Baptist, where she faithfully attended until she was no longer physically able. She established a couple of very close relationships through the church and always looked forward to receiving the church’s weekly bulletin.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Memory Lane Cottage for the love and care they gave our mother this past year.
If preferred, in lieu of flowers (her favorite color is yellow), donations may be made in Hilda’s memory to the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Center and Research Institute. Checks should be made out to “USF Foundation Inc.” and mailed to USF Health Byrd Institute, ATTN: Dan Minor, ALC 100, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, FL 33620
A visitation for Hilda will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hillsdale Baptist Church, 6201 Ehrlich Rd, Tampa, FL 33625 with funeral services to begin at 11:00AM at the church.
