He was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey and graduated from Henry Snyder High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country from 1959 to 1965 achieving the rank of Corporal and receiving the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he had a career at Public Service Electric and Gas Company spanning over 25 years. During that time, Henry obtained his Engineer’s License and attended Saint Peter’s College Evening Session, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He received the Gannon Medal for maintaining the highest general average in economics throughout his collegiate career.
Henry married his devoted wife JoAnne Gertrude (née O’Connor) in 1964 and together they raised their family in Bayonne, New Jersey and later moved to Linden, New Jersey. Henry then settled in Tampa after JoAnne’s death in 2002.
Henry was predeceased by his parents Wilho and Signe Ranta and his brothers Allen and Robert.
Surviving are two daughters; Mary Elizabeth and her husband Dr. Gerard Mosiello, of Tampa, FL, and Kelly Anne and her husband Patrick Pecoraro, of Plainfield, NJ; five grandchildren; Andrew Pecoraro, AnneMarie (née Mosiello) and her husband Ben Allushuski, Jack Pecoraro, Matthew Mosiello and Julia Pecoraro; and great-granddaughter Blair Allushuski.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law Msgr. John P. O’Connor and sisters-in-law Mary Lanzillo, Margaret McInerney and Janet Ranta, as well as many nieces and nephews.
