Ed was born in St. Petersburg, FL to Harold and Pauline Davis on October 22, 1932. He was a graduate of Hillsborough High School in Tampa, FL. He graduated from The University of Tampa (BS), Florida State University (MSW) and Nova Southeastern University (PhD). Ed worked as a social worker/administrator for the Hillsborough County School System for over thirty years and as an adjunct professor at The University of Tampa and St. Leo University for more than forty years combined. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Marine Corps. Ed was a long-time member and Deacon of both Riverside Baptist Church and Lake Carroll Baptist Church in Tampa, FL. He was also a graduate of The University of Florida’s Master Gardener program, a published author, a musician (trumpet) with the Tampa Philharmonic Orchestra, an avid golfer and supporter of FSU athletics. Ed spoke three languages and, along with his wife Alice, traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and twenty-one other countries.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Alice Y. Davis, his sister Anitra Hutchison and his parents.
Ed is survived by his wife Gin Krokenberger, his three children Adair Elwing (Paul), Alisanne Gray (Archie), Tim Davis (Connie), his six grandchildren Laura Pukki (Vinny), Jonathan Elwing (Krystal), Bethan Morris (Othy), Andrew Elwing, Stephanie Maddox (Josh), Meissa Davis and his thirteen great grandchildren Michael, Ethan, Colin, Winston, Conner, Ainsley, Josiah, Lilybeth, Peter, Alex, Kyle, Sam and Ty.
The family will receive visitors at 12:00pm and a memorial service will begin at 1:00pm Saturday February 11, 2023 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home located at 3207 W. Bearss Avenue, Tampa, FL. A graveside service and interment will follow at 3:00pm at Garden of Memories Cemetery located at 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL.
