Grace R Stagi, age 91, of Tampa, Florida passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Grace was born February 23, 1930. She is survived by daughters, Gloria Stagi Coyle (Patrick), Rosemary Stagi, and son, Joseph Stagi Jr. (Marcy), her sister Marta Calleja (John), brother Mario Calleja (Melinda), grand-daughter, Kelly-Anne Stagi and grandson, Joseph Coyle and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother, Gloria Calleja.
Grace was born in Bogota, Colombia and moved with her mother to Panama as a young child. While in the Canal Zone, Grace excelled in sports to include basketball and volleyball. In her twenties she met and married Joseph Stagi, who was stationed in the U.S. Army in Panama.
They returned to the U.S. to settle in Baltimore, Maryland where her three children were born and raised. In 1964 the family moved to Tampa, Florida where Grace was a homemaker. She loved sewing, gardening and dancing. She loved Latin music and was always looking to dance a good Cha Cha or Guaracha.
One of Grace’s proudest accomplishments was becoming a U.S. citizen. Grace’s two favorite passions outside of her grandkids were tennis and the N.Y. Yankees. She was an avid tennis player and was on several competitive Carrollwood teams. She took pride in her competitiveness, her stamina and her willingness to play tennis well into her seventies.
Grace will be deeply missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Lifepath Hospice in Tampa.
A visitation for Grace will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Blount & Curry Funeral Home-Carrollwood Chapel, 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, Florida 33618, followed by a Catholic funeral service at 10:00am. A private graveside service will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Garden Of Memories Cemetery, 4207 E Lake Ave, Tampa, Florida 33610.
