VOLLICK, Gladys Ina, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2018. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, James Russell Eugene Vollick. Gladys is survived by daughter Joanne Lima (husband Mike and granddaughters Suzy Gillum-Lynch, Michelle Sullivan and Christine Watt), son Russell Vollick (wife Sherri and grandchildren Celina Vollick and Travis Vollick) and daughter Linda Frey (husband Jeff and granddaughters Jaclyn Frey and Kelli Frey). She is also survived by four great grandchildren.
Born Gladys Ina McVittie in London, England on March 6, 1919 and raised in Canada, Gladys moved to Tampa with her family in 1953. After retiring as an Executive Assistant at Maas Brothers, Gladys and her husband, Gene, loved to travel in their RV and belonged to a local RV club, Trail Blazing Sams. She loved to dance, play games (especially Euchre and Bingo) and socialize with her many friends. She loved to sing, especially all the old church hymns and she shared her love of music by making sure her grandchildren took piano lessons. She loved crafts and was an excellent cook, seamstress, cake decorator and knitter. She loved flowers and could often be found working in her garden. After Gene passed away, Gladys was involved in volunteer activities and made friends everywhere she went. She worked at the front desk of Southwest Florida Baptist Hospital greeting everyone who walked in. She also volunteered at Meals on Wheels, the Plant City Historical Society and the Strawberry Festival in Plant City. She loved life and lived every day to the fullest.
Gladys was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Above all, she loved her family and was dedicated to being a positive influence on their lives. Her grandchildren will forever remember all their special times with her.
A Celebration of her life is planned August 4, 2018, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 3207 W. Bearss Avenue, Carrollwood. Visitation begins at 1pm and the service is at 2pm. Dress is casual. Please wear bright colors to honor Gladys’ bright smile and happy outlook on life. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to your favorite charity in her name.
