Seegers, George Edwin, 73, died Saturday, April 2, 2016 at home with his loving family. He was born in Kearny, New Jersey where he attended St. Cecilia’s Grammar School and Queen of Peace High School and went on to receive a degree in Mathematics from St. Peters College and a Masters from Rutgers University. He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Linda Courier Seegers and a shared family of 8 including Scott Seegers (Molly), Stamford, CT; Amie Seegers, Belmar, NJ; Pete Seegers (Liz), Leesburg, VA; Sarah Karlo (Chris), Tampa, FL; Michael Seegers (Anna Kontos), Boston, MA; Audra Courier Nasser (Dan), Tampa, FL; Jim Courier (Susanna), Orlando, FL/NYC; Kris Courier (Mary Beth), Tampa, Fl; and GPa or Grandpa George to grandchildren that lit up his life and for whom he loved to mentor and tell stories and jokes: Patrick Seegers, Jack Seegers, Cooper Seegers, Michael Seegers, Garrett Seegers, Teddy Seegers, Alex Seegers, Charlie Karlo, Michael Karlo, G. Cade Karlo, Jordan Nasser, Jonathan Nasser, Daniela Nasser, Lane Courier, and Kellan Courier; brothers, Ronald Seegers, David Seegers, Tom Seegers and John Seegers. George was predeceased in 1996 after 30 years of marriage by his loving wife, Noreen Ford Seegers. In addition to so many, many friends that meant the world to him, he will be greatly missed by his loving Doodles, Skylar and Ella who snuggled with him and made him smile. Mr. Seegers was Chief Administrative Office - Citigroup, New York; Deputy Corporate Secretary - Citigroup, New York; he retired as President- Citigroup Florida; was a former Executive-in-Residence- University of South Florida, Tampa, FL; he also retired as a Raymond James Bank Board member, St Petersburg, FL; was a former University Community Hospital Foundation Board member, Tampa, FL; George was recognized for dedication and commitment to the Project Trust Corporate Mentor Program, College of Business Administration University of South Florida, Tampa, FL; he was a past President of the Hillsborough Education Foundation; the Summer Jobs Award was presented to him at the White House by President Ronald Reagan on May 17, 1984; George was a former Chairman of Harlem Junior Tennis Association, NYC; as well as a board member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Newport, RI; he was a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tampa, FL; a member of Avila Golf and Country Club and the Tampa Yacht and Country Club. He proudly served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S Army as a Paratrooper and Army Intelligence Officer with combat duty in the Dominican Republic. Some of his many hobbies and interests were tennis as an active USTA member. He loved traveling to see the U.S. Davis Cup team and major tournaments worldwide and seeing some of the finest players in the world. He loved golf, guitar, anything French and he was an avid reader. He took French lessons in his office at Citigroup for years. In addition, he felt a strong responsibility and great pride in connecting people to create a mentoring relationship. His concern with his staff was always to ensure they reached their potential and reached higher than they thought they could. Even up until his last few weeks, he was trying to connect a nurse who lovingly cared for him and who aspired to attend medical school with a USF doctor. George was the most selfless of people and his love was endless for all who were privileged enough to know him. He treated everyone with the utmost respect, a warm hug and was a true gentleman. He was a GENTLE man in every respect of the word. In short, he is and always will remain an inspiration to all. The family will receive guests, Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood Chapel, 3207 W. Bearss Avenue, Tampa, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 15520 North Boulevard, Tampa, Florida. The family will receive guests, Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 10am to 11:45am at Parow Funeral Home, 185 Ridge Road, North Arlington, New Jersey 07031, 201-998-7555. Graveside service to follow immediately at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ with a date to be announced later. Fox Organization for Parkinson’s Research, (Michaeljfox.org) He was so proud of all of his family and friends and his love, nurturing, brightness and care will be so hard to do without. He was an amazing friend to all lucky enough to know him. The family wants you to know how much he cared and how boundless was his capacity to love. Heaven is a better place today.
