George Joseph M.D.

Dr. George Joseph, 41, of Tampa, FL passed away on December 15th, 2022 after a long and valiant fight with brain cancer.

From the time of his birth on February 21st, 1981, George was a light in the world. He had a warmth and spark that could draw in anyone he encountered.

George was the second born son of Sam and Nadia Joseph, whom he adored. He always looked up to his older brother, Sam Jr, and followed in his footsteps. After excelling in high school, both were accepted to and completed a 6 year program at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine to receive their bachelor and medical doctor degrees. Sam picked Orthopaedics as his specialty, so George did as well.

But, George also wanted to forge his own path. He pursued a plastic surgery fellowship at Louisiana State University where he met and fell head over heels in love with his wife, Lindsey. Their love was swift and true, and George proposed only a few months later.

After his fellowship, he moved to Tampa, FL to be near his brother, and begin his work as a plastic surgeon. He also brought some friends, and eventually his parents, down to FL with him.

George and Lindsey were married on December 14, 2013. Their first year of marriage was marked with the joy of learning they were expecting a baby girl. Nadia Galatea Joseph was born on January 9th, 2015 and stole the hearts of both her Mom and Dad.

Sadly, just 2 weeks before his daughter's birth, George was diagnosed with the cancer that would end up taking his life 8 years later.

During some of those years, George worked as an orthopaedic surgeon at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. He was a beloved attending, and greatly impacted the lives of many residents with his approachable teaching style and surgical skill.

George was a man of deep intellect. He could spar or debate with anyone on any topic, and would often play Devil’s advocate just to make a conversation more interesting. He was also a man of deep faith and a committed member of his parish, Sacred Heart. He always had an abundance of friends, as he was incredibly engaging and charismatic.

Above all, George loved his family fiercely. He is survived by his wife Dr. Lindsey Joseph, and daughter Nadia Joseph; parents, Samuel and Nadia Joseph; brother Dr. Samuel Joseph Jr and wife Elizabeth; and nieces Emelia and Georgia Joseph.

A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 20th at 10am with a reception to follow at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories.
