George “Bud” Philip Jones, 85, of Tampa, passed away on June 21, 2023. He was born on October 2, 1937, in Washington DC, and spent his early years in Kensington, Maryland. He was the son of the late James “Burnie” and Sydney “Sandy” Jones. Bud served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958 as an Aircraft Electrical Engineer. He was a graduate of Capital Radio Engineering Institute in Washington DC. In the 1960’s, Bud started a long career as a commercial airline pilot. He met and fell in love with Marga Peglow in Miami, Florida, and they were married on December 15, 1978. Bud was a captain at Delta Airlines, retiring at age sixty after thirty years of piloting Delta routes in the US and Canada. He had a long and happy retirement in the Tampa area enjoying friends, travel, and time with Marga. Bud was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary J. “Dolly” and Tony DeMatteo, his brother-in-law, Marvin J. Myers, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Ada B. Jones. In addition to Marga, his wife of 44 years, he is survived by his stepson, Christopher Fisher of Orlando; his sister, Virginia T. “Dee Dee” Myers of Monrovia, MD; his brother, Robert A. Jones of Westminster, MD, and Marga’s sister and brother-in-law, Karin and Dieter Rupprecht of Germany. Bud will also be remembered by his eight nieces and nephews and their families, and his many dear friends. Private Funeral services will be held at Bushnell National Cemetery.
