It is with great sadness that the family of Gary Lee Callicoat announces his passing on June 27, 2019 at the age of 67. Gary passed away peacefully at Advent Heath Hospital, Wesley Chapel and joined his Lord in Heaven with his family by his side. This relocation comes with a reunion with his Mother and Father, brother Harry and sisters, Laree and Elaine. His relocation takes him to a wonderful place where Classic Rock, BBQ, comfort and love are guaranteed. Gary Lee was born in Springfield, Ohio on May 10, 1952, to the late Harry D. Sr and Dorothy (Empey) Callicoat. He was a great man of character who helped everyone he could. He was a devoted father, loving husband, and a loyal friend. Gary, who is survived by his beloved wife, Susan C. Callicoat shared an incredible life and a beautiful devotion to each other for over 35 years. Gary leaves behind a loving son, Ryan; daughter-in-law, Jodi; and four grandchildren, Lauren, Shelby, Noah, and Caden. He also leaves behind brothers, Louis, Larry, and Steven and sisters Mary Williams and Eileen Johnson.
He was a graduate of Chamberlin High School,Tampa Florida. Class of 1971 and a holder of a Class A State air conditioning License.
Gary was a hard worker who never quit. He was also a Certified Kansas City BBQ Society Judge and a Kansas City BBQ Society Florida State Champion winning several BBQ Championships. He was the “Pit Master” behind their restaurant, Cally’s Sticky Bones BBQ. A tremendous passion for cooking, no one ever left Gary’s table without a second helping of food and trying to discover one of his many secret recipes. Anything and everything he prepared was as good as gold and would make your taste buds sing.
In 1987 Gary took over the family business, HD Able, as Owner and Operator, now Able Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. He and his wife Susan ran the business until his death.
Gary was a giver throughout his life who honored and loved his family and friends. Gary will be missed by all those that he touched in life.
A viewing will take place at Blount & Curry FH-Carrolwood on Tuesday, July 2nd between 5pm-8pm. His funeral will take place with a graveside service at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 3rd.
