90, of Tampa, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 10th 2015. Frank was born in Fort Wayne, IN and married Marlene Mary Hug on June 10th 1961. He worked for Gulf Oil Corporation and then moved to Tampa in 1973 and retired in 1984 after 25 years of service. He was a devout member of Christ the King Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion and served in the United States Army during WWII. Frank was a devoted husband of 49 years and a real life “Hero” to his wife and four children. He taught them values such as; compassion, patience, sense of humor, generosity, and kindness through his own actions. He was a man who lived his life through his word. Frank was everyone’s favorite and the life of the party, and the host of many neighborhood driveway spirited festivities. His loving daughter Diana (his “Partner in Crime”), Jimmy and Marco were his continuous Care Givers that gave never ending love and compassion. We would also like to thank Wanda Johnson who truly became a family member after many years of care to both Frank and Marlene. He is survived by his children, Debbie Kohler (Kurt) of St. Louis, MO, Diana Alter of Tampa, Frank Alter III (Melissa) of Ruskin, and James Alter (Marco) of Orlando; grandchildren, Nick, Maddie, Cole, Paige, and let’s not forget Kona; siblings Joseph Alter, and Helen Darling. Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene (Hug) Alter his parents, Frank E. Alter Sr. and Eleanora (Schone) Alter and siblings, Albert Alter, Jerome Alter, Mary Jane Cains and Maxine Gordon. A visitation will be held from 6pm-8pm on Thursday, April 16th at Blount & Curry MacDill, 605 S. MacDill Ave. A funeral mass will take place at 9:30am on Friday, April 17th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Hwy.
