Mr. Ezekiel Bain, age 87, of Tampa, Florida passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023. A funeral service will occur 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, 2101 Lowe Street Tampa, Florida with Pastor Glenn B. Dames, Jr., Officiating.
Mr. Bain was born in Long Bay Cays, Andros Island, Bahamas to the late Nathaniel “Captain Mac” and Lula E. (McKinney) Bain. Mr. Bain attended schools of the Bahamas and graduated from Southern Senior High School in Nassau, Bahamas. As the oldest child, Mr. Bain learned incredibly early in life to take care of his younger siblings, especially while his father was away. His father taught him the ways of the ocean (working on boats and fishing) while his mother taught him how to be a skilled cook and baker. His proudest moments were in cooking for his family and friends, especially his sweet potato pies, and giving them a reason to gather and enjoy each other’s company.
Mr. Bain was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Sherwin, Nathaniel, Vernal, Spencer, Edmund, and Leo Bain; sisters, Norma, Shaun, and Vernita Bain, grandson, Aaron Peterson, III, and other close family members. On Friday, February 17, 2023, Mr. Bain peacefully transitioned from this earthly life into eternity to be with the Lord. Cherished memories linger in the hearts of his daughters and caregivers whom he loved dearly: Melissa Peterson (Aaron), Elizabeth Anderson, Marshanna Gipson (Tyrone), Maquesha Bain, and Rashondra Levarity (Tavares); sisters: Eulease Spencer, Maxine Betty (Samuel), Doretha Laing, Principal Nursing officer and Minister Cheryln Bain, Desilee Bain, brother: Clarence Bain; grandchildren: Curtis Fontain III, Anthony Bain, Shamera Wingfield, Jordan Anderson, Justin Anderson, Tyshae Gipson, Tyra Gipson, and Tyrone Gipson Jr. great-grandchildren: Ma’caila Owen, Ma’kih Wingfield uncle: George McKinney (Dorothy), former wife and friend: Patricia Baker Bain, sisters-in-law: Princess, Ellamae, and Noralee Bain, Elizabeth and Frances Baker, Olivia Shephard, and Consolee Standberry god-daughter: Mercella Oliver (Tony) a host of Nieces: Janet, Yvette, Andrea, Alelia, Jennifer, Donnalisa, Terrel, Asia, Renae, Sabrina, Monique, Shonique, Kendra Spencer, Sabrina Dorsett, Lisa, Samantha, Yvette, Carla, Karen, and Nicole Nephews: Craig, Alexander, Norris, Don, Michael, Wade, Jacob, Benjamin, Vandyke, Edmund Jr., Warren, Humphrey, Ryan, Austin, Sancho, Allyvasso, Adrian, Jarrett, (Nickie), Kevin, Kiko, Raymond, and Roosevelt, A host of grandnieces, nephews, and cousins, close friends: Harriet Scott, Rev. James Mitchell, Rebecca McGowan, Special acknowledgment to, Lucille and George Dobrin, Glen and Ellen Riley, the McKinney, Johnson, Ingraham, Rolle and Baker families, his beloved church Allen Temple AME, and Bishop Godfrey R. Williams and the Jubilee Cathedral church family of Freeport, Bahamas.
A visitation for Mr. Ezekiel will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023 at Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, 2101 Lowe Street, Tampa, Florida. A funeral service will occur 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, Tampa, Florida. Interment to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa, Florida.
